Codecademy is a team of hackers working hard to build a better way for anyone to teach, and learn, how to code. Its a New York-based education startup, launched in August 2011 by Zach Sims alongside Ryan Bubinski. Since then, it acts as a free platform to teach the world to program. Codecademy is currently a team of 13 whose mission is to turn a world of tech consumers into one of empowered builders.
On Friday, Lee told the story of Codecademy to curious Estonian audience including his experience in startup projects. Lee says that digital literacy is becoming more important while building new businesses, especially in startup business. He lists important aspects of initializing a startup projects as hiring right people and dealing with investors which are both time consuming. "Therefore there is no better time than NOW to get young people started", he says.
Lee points out that Codecademy is different comparing to other education platforms with its focus on coding and interactive user friendly design. They are currently working on creating content for advanced level courses in different coding languages. Their content is mostly crowdsourced, however web giants like YouTube and Twitter also provide them content about how to develop APIs. Lee also shared some fascinating success stories of Codecademy users including to become a developer of API with hundreds thousands of users from zero coding knowledge.
